• Cedar’s University Advisor earns international recognition from Council of International Schools and the College Board.
  • Cedar attracts university admissions officers to BVI benefiting all high school students in the Territory.
  • Cedar chosen to host major International University Fair in September 2020.

The scope of the University Advising programme at Cedar has been significantly enhanced recently with Mrs. Roshan Gujar, University Admissions Advisor at Cedar International School, making great efforts to develop deeper institutional relationships around the world, create opportunities for students and raise the profile of applicants from the BVI.

International recognition

Mrs. Gujar was recently appointed to two Higher Education Committees at the Council of International Schools (CIS) and will sit on the Latin America and Caribbean Committee, as well as the University Guidance Committee. As the only representative from the Caribbean region, Mrs. Gujar hopes to ensure visibility and consideration for Cedar students, and the Territory and region as a whole.

She was also invited to address the CIS Latin America Institute on International Admission and Guidance in Bogota, Colombia where she co-presented with the Senior Associate Director of International Admission and Evaluation at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Most recently, Mrs. Gujar was nominated for her exemplary work as a professional school counselor for the 2019-20 College Board Counselor Recognition Program, which highlights the important work of innovative, results-oriented counselors who are committed to student success and opportunity.

Developing relationships. Creating opportunities.

Mrs. Gujar’s regular attendance at conferences and participation on university tours has led to a deep knowledge of different institutions and relationships with admissions officers around the world. This intimate knowledge enables students to be matched with courses and opportunities best suited to their interests and strengths, with student applicants travelling to visit a range of campuses in person during an annual University Tour, part of the Experiential Education and Travel Programme at Cedar.

Through these connections, Cedar is also able to offer an ongoing series of seminars for students on the school campus. University admissions officers are invited to visit the BVI to spotlight their universities, find out about our students, and discuss topics like entry requirements, the process of applying and scholarships available for international students. The benefits of these seminars are not limited to Cedar students, as students from other high schools in the BVI are invited to attend so all can benefit from the experience.

Cedar chosen to host CIS International University Fair

The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a global membership community committed to high quality international education, whose community includes more than 740 schools and 615 colleges and universities representing 116 countries.  It is a highly influential global organisation in education standards and practices, and is one of the agencies accrediting Cedar’s programmes.

Cedar is delighted to have been selected to host the CIS International University Fair on its campus in September 2020, and looks forward to welcoming representatives of universities from around the world to the BVI. The occasion will mark the first time the CIS Fair has been held in the BVI, marking the increased presence the BVI is getting on a global stage thanks to the growing momentum of Cedar’s university advising programme. A rising tide raises all ships, and in common with Cedar’s approach to the seminar series, students from all over the BVI will be welcomed to participate and benefit from the exposure and insight the event promises.

About the University Advising Programme

The University Advising Programme at Cedar is designed to support students through all facets of university planning, application and readiness. It encompasses a weekly class for grades 9-12 as well as office hours for students to meet with the University Admissions Advisor for individualised advising regarding the academic path that they want to pursue post-Cedar. The programme teaches students how to strengthen their candidacy for university degree programmes and provides resources to increase students’ competitiveness for admission, which is translating into impressive University offers, scholarships and performance at the next stage of their education.
