BVI Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund
Access to education is the most important tool to influence a child’s life. Our BVI Scholarship Fund was conceived to give back to the community as well as to provide access.
The program was set up to increase access for talented students in the BVI. The scholarship program was started in 2013 and currently has 18 students in it, spread between grades 7-12.
Current donors include 14 firms (Digicel, Maples, Borrelli Walsh, Conyers, Tovel, Peter Island, BDO, VP Bank, Caribbean Insurers, TAG, Sherwin Paints, Krys Global, Navanchor, and Campbells) and one anonymous individual. Together they provided $246K in scholarships that we were able to award this year. 100% of that has been provided to the 18 students in the program.
Most of these scholarships cover between 50% and 90% of tuition and are guaranteed for the life of the student, so long as they remain in good standing behaviourally and academically. The scholarships give these students access to phenomenal teachers and a high quality, international education model aimed at preparing them for success at university and beyond, they bring great students into the school making our classrooms more robust and raising the academic bar, and at the same time are a net benefit to the school, benefiting every family in our community.
Our scholarship students have been leaders at Cedar: earning awards on the debate team, serving as founders of Cedar’s Interact Club, playing in the rock band and on the soccer team, taking the full IB Diploma Program, earning marks that land them on honour roll, etc. The first ones graduated last academic year and we are excited to follow their success at the next level.
