Dear Cedar Families,
As we return from break, we enter the final stretch of the school year. The next 10 weeks will see exciting displays of student learning, including PYP Exhibition, Personal Project Evening, MYP eAssessments, the Senior Art Exhibit, and, of course, DP Exams. Add the Talent Show, Travel Week, PTA Beach Olympics, and more, and it’s going to be quite a ride!
Thus, the break was the perfect time for students and teachers alike to refresh and recommit for a strong finish.
Cedar has used the time to refresh as well, putting the finishing touches on a new look which will be launched this week. This is more than just a new logo and website. It is the culmination of a reflective journey, an inclusive process involving parents, students, and staff as we have sought to honour Cedar’s history and values, and represent the progress Cedar has made in recent years: its commitment to excellence in international education, increased student opportunities in travel, sports, and the arts, increased engagement with the local community, and, importantly, increased access to a Cedar education through the creation of the BVI Scholarship programme and the Solution Studio, initiatives which have made the school a better place for a students.
Thus, when students return to school on Monday, they will see changes, including new signage around school and a new look in the Atrium, which honours Cedar’s mission and recognises the generous donors whose support helps us carry out that mission.
Tuesday, then, is launch day. We will hold an assembly for students at 9:00am to present the new logo and the values it represents. The new website will also go live on this day, and we will have tables set up in the Atrium at drop off and pick up for parents to preview the website. We view the website as a dynamic tool, a work in progress, and will welcome feedback as you try it out.
Note that the new website will also come with a new domain: www.cedar.vg. It’s easy to remember, and, with a .vg tag, it firmly identifies Cedar as a proud part of the Virgin Islands community. School email addresses will also carry the cedar.vg tags, but don’t worry, our old addresses will continue to be received in the same inbox so that communication is uninterrupted.
We look forward to sharing these changes with you in the week ahead and hope you agree they capture well the values and identity that make Cedar such a strong learning community.
Sincerely,
Scott Crawford, Director
