Dear Cedar Families.
I am thrilled to announce the commencement of the all new catering unit at Cedar International School – “The Lunch Box”. As of Monday 24th October, The Lunch Box food trailer situated at the east end of the school will be ready to serve nutritious, diverse and tasty food and refreshments to students, staff and parents alike. All of the food will be prepared with care in the well equipped kitchen using fresh ingredients. We will be steering clear of processed foods, plastic cutlery and plates and the evils of Styrofoam.
We will be open in the mornings from 0730 hrs and available throughout the ‘drop off’ period providing breakfast, teas, coffees and juices for those who would like it, either to stay or go. The catering unit will be available to supply simple healthy snacks at breaktime, a healthy lunch cycling a fortnightly menu, and additional tasty treats, smoothies and snacks right through the 1500 hrs pick up time and on into after school clubs. We intend to cater for staff lunches and have options for parents who would like to grab a lunch or snack to take away.
While we begin ‘Old skool’ on paper, we intend to implement a web based system of personal accounts/menu selection/ pre-ordering and payment. This system will ultimately enable parents to order precisely and to know exactly what their child was served and when.
ACCOUNTS
Parents and guardians will be alerted to a pre order/pre paid system for the lunches where they can ‘select all’ over a fortnightly or 1 month or check boxes for a specific day or days within that period. While we will accept cash at The Lunch Box for snacks and refreshments outside each child or family can then have a ‘top-up’ based cashless account system through which an item can be purchased. Parents will be alerted by email when the account is running low.
DRINKS
While The Lunch Box may offer a selection of appropriate pre-packaged juices and drinks we encourage the continued system of the students having their own water throughout the day. We will though have a daily fresh fruit smoothie available and extracted fresh fruit and vegetable juices. The ‘grown-ups’ will also be able to enjoy fresh juices, teas, chai and delicious Italian coffees. We will not be serving sugary cans of soda……………or Cheetos (sorry).
BREAKFAST
More than likely most students have breakfast at home before arriving at school, but for those who require it, some simple selections will be available. Parents will be able to grab a breakfast bacon Panini/yogurt granola fruit cup/Porridge or bagel or other rolling special with a coffee to go should they so desire. We are working on the all-encompassing “Cedar Salad” box.
SNACKTIME
Parents may wish to pack a snack or buy a snack….Lunch Box will be offering a single daily snack at breaktime (to include veg stix and dips/ fruit cups/ fruit piece/homemade granola power bars/mini smoothies/cheese roll/frozen fruit and yogurt popsicles).
LUNCH
Lunch will be served on a real plate with real cutlery. Two portion sizes will be available at $6 or $8 accordingly. Each lunch will include a main meal and a dessert. Aside from the main meal an alternative choice will be available, these alternatives will include a simple hot or cold filled Panini (toasted hot press sandwich) or a bowl of the Soup of the day with bread. These selections can be made via the preorder form, attached to this email, and also available from the Front Office. If a student regularly enjoys a pack-lunch but on a particular day will require lunch from ‘The Lunch Box’, a parent will be able to contact us directly in the morning or by phone/email by 10:00hrs to have said student included in that day’s lunch. We will be running some complimentary 3pm tasting sessions for parents and guardians as we open….
AFTER SCHOOL
The Lunch Box will remain open in the afternoon and be available for drinks sandwiches, popsicles, smoothies, cake and snack specials that we will post daily on our chalkboards. Parents will be able to enjoy refreshments should they so desire as they await the end of clubs and sports. The Lunch Box is a new venture at the school and I hope to be able to be able to satisfy the needs of most or all in the Cedar community. If you would like to enroll your child in the lunch program or create a top up style account for other snacks and sundries please pick up a form from the Front Office or print/email the attached one, fill it out and return by the end of the week.
