Why Choose Cedar?

A few years ago, a powerful video called “Did you know?” made the rounds, reminding us that the world is moving at an unbelievably fast pace.

It was a poignant reminder that many of the careers today’s students will have in their adult lives do not even exist yet. So how can we prepare students for such a world? By giving them the skills they need to adapt and succeed. For this reason, an education that emphasizes the acquisition of skills—not just content—is absolutely critical for a student’s future success. That is exactly what a Cedar education is all about.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Cedar delivers an internationally-accredited, highly-regarded education focused on student inquiry and leading to the development of critical skills: how to problem solve, how to think critically, how to find information and evaluate its credibility, how to ask the right questions, how to be an independent learner, how to collaborate with others effectively… These are skills that prepare our students for life beyond school.

Development of these skills starts with our youngest students in the Primary Years Programme (Pre-kindergarten – Grade 5), continues throughout the Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-10), and culminates with our IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11-12).

RESULTS

Cedar has an impressive track record of success. Our IB Diploma students regularly achieve pass rates and average scores that exceed the global average. Our graduates now study at some of the top-ranked universities in the US, UK, and Canada. Click here for an overview of the achievements of the class of 2019.

This success is not limited to the IB Diploma Programme. Cedar students in the Primary and Middle Years Programmes score at or above global averages on the International Schools Assessment, a test utilized by competitive international schools around the world. MYP students also excel on the IB MYP eAssessments, leading to the MYP Certificate. (Click here for latest results.) Such results assure families that Cedar students stack up well against their international peers.

HOW DO WE GET THESE RESULTS?

It’s quite simple: at Cedar, we invest in the tools students need to achieve.

Quality teachers

Our teachers are highly-qualified professionals dedicated to their craft. Over 60% have master’s or other advanced degrees. Many are qualified programme evaluators, workshop leaders, and MYP and DP examiners. A diverse group, they come from 16 different countries and bring experience from many more ensuring a diverse cultural perspective in the classroom. When you combine this with an 7:1 student/teacher ratio, you have a powerful recipe for success!

Technology

With SMART Boards in every classroom, a mobile Chrome Book and iPad lab for primary students, MacBooks for secondary students, and high-speed wireless internet access throughout campus, technology is seamlessly integrated into the classroom, allowing the learning environment to reflect the world in which our students will live and work.

Campus and Extracurricular Opportunity

With first-rate science labs, comprehensive programmes for art, music, drama, and design, a culinary centre, a woodshop, a garden, playgrounds, a skate park, an athletic pitch, and a basketball court all located on campus, our facilities support a balanced, comprehensive educational experience. Our students are active in sports, arts, service, and after school clubs. Many of them represent the BVI in sports such as football, tennis, squash, rugby, and sailing.

Globally-relevant Curriculum

Our IB programme is world-renown and internationally accredited. It is based on international standards, it stresses the acquisition of skills over content, and it is recognised by universities around the world. Read more about the IB at www.ibo.org.
