Let’s Raise the Roof!

The success of the introduction of the steel pans at Cedar last year injected fresh enthusiasm and momentum to our music programmes, and revealed huge demand for involvement across the community with students, staff, parents and the wider BVI community engaging enthusiastically! We would love to see that growth continue and be able to further develop Cedar’s performing arts programmes while creating a space available to students from all schools for culturally relevant community-based programs, such as a fungi band and dance troupes.

In order to continue to grow these initiatives, we desperately need to re-develop the current music room to accommodate a second floor, forming a dedicated Performing Arts Centre at Cedar. The proposed plan (rendering below) adds a flexible tuition space upstairs, while adding storage and a stage for performances which opens onto the basketball area, providing a dedicated stage for music, dance and drama. Estimates for this development are in the region of $350,000.

To help us achieve our fundraising goal we are launching the ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign. Alongside the Cedar pitch we have mounted a large board (see the online version below). Each square on the board represents $200 towards the new Performing Arts Centre.

We invite you to sponsor a square, or multiple squares, (or even part of a square (share a square)). Squares at $200 or above can display your name or logo.

As Cedar is a non-profit organisation which runs on very fine operating margins, we rely on fundraising initiatives to realise capital projects and development. We hope you will help us with this important development so we can provide excellent facilities for tuition and performance, and can expand our elective and after school clubs to enrich not only our students, but our wider community as a whole.

Thank you for considering contributing towards this exciting and much needed development!
