Dear Cedar Families,
Fittingly, the last day of school before break was the 100th day of this school year. This occasion was marked by our Pre-K students who transformed into 100 year-olds for the day, and played games with the number 100, including predicting how far 100 steps would take them. (It turns out, only as far as the school car park, and not Riteway or the North Pole as some had speculated!)
As we prepare to resume school again after break it is worth reflecting on what a full 100 days of school it has been so far. Indeed, a look back at just the first six weeks of 2016 provides a dizzying array of activities worthy of celebration that reminds us what a robust and balanced experience a Cedar education is.
- Grade 5 took its annual camping trip to St. John, cultivating skills of leadership and independence that will serve students well as they prepare to move into the secondary school next year.
- Cedar sailors Jason Putley (G12), Thad Lettsome (G8), Rayne Duff (G7), Nathan Haycraft (G6), and Ryan Lettsome (G4) brought back a haul of awards from the P an P epin International R egatta in Puerto Rico, including 1st place overall by Rayne!
- Cedar hosted two exchange students from SEK-Catalunya, an IB World School in Barcelona, returning the hospitality shown to Cedar students who traveled to Barcelona last October.
- Cedar’s Performing Arts course culminated with a fabulous performance of Alice in Wonderland at the HLSCC auditorium, ushering in a new era for performing arts at Cedar.
- Students in grades 3, 5, 7, and 9 sat the International Schools Assessment (ISA), which will provide ongoing data as to how Cedar students stack up against their peers around the world.
- Cedar footballers partnered with other athletes from the BVI and USVI to compete in the Global Premier Soccer Caribbean
Showcase in Puerto Rico. - Cedar’s Interact Club won first prize in the Caribbean R egional Interact Song Contest with an original composition heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCnOFkbPiaQ.
- Finally, showing that Cedar students can balance all of that activity while still remaining focused on their academics, the first semester ended with a spectacular Honour Roll assembly recognising the outstanding academic achievements of Cedar students, as well as other talents and accomplishments.
Whew! That’s just a small sample of activity that took place in the last 7 weeks. As Pre-K students will remind you, we still have 80 days of school left! We look forward to resuming the fun this week.
Sincerely,
Scott Crawford, Director
