Dear Cedar community,
How time flies! It’s hard to believe we have completed our first two weeks of the new school year already, and what a two weeks it has been. The energy and interaction of our teachers and students—old and young, new and returning—are the key ingredients that make the Cedar environment so inviting. It is good to have everyone back on campus.
Learning and fun are well underway. We’ve seen the start of exciting new initiatives, like 180 Days of Learning, profiling a different member of our learning community each day on the school’s Facebook page. (Thanks for the great idea, Mrs. Boazman!) We’ve seen the continuation of fun traditions, like dressing as favorite book characters to celebrate International Literacy Day at Cedar. Well done to the children (and teachers!) for their excellent costumes, and to Ms. Dixon for getting the year off to a strong start in the library.
I want to call everyone’s attention to another important Cedar tradition about to happen: Meet the Teacher Night. Primary Meet the Teacher Night will take place this Wednesday, September 14th, with Secondary Meet the Teacher Night happening the following Wednesday, September 21st. Research is clear that a positive parent-teacher partnership is an important ingredient for student success, so please do seize the opportunity to attend Meet the Teacher Night. It is a great way to start building a strong relationship with your child’s teachers while learning more about what your child will be learning this year. We hope to see you there!
Even if you missed the email I sent last week, I suspect everyone has noticed the transformation of Cedar’s newly leased land just to the east of the pitch. That has happened fast! We are pleased to have secured the land and look forward to incorporating it into our programmes for immediate benefit. I knew parents would be excited about the idea of a staff parking lot that would help relieve congestion in the main lot, but I didn’t anticipate the number of excited responses I would receive about the school garden project. I’m so pleased to know that a “farm to table” experience appeals to so many, as it confirms that our commitment to healthy living and sustainability has wide support in our community.
On that note, you’ll be happy to know that the new kitchen trailer shipped this week and is on its way to us. We also have exciting proposals in hand from quality vendors that we are currently reviewing, so we should have good news about the Cedar food programme in short order, with service up and running by the end of the month. In the meantime, we appreciate the effort parents are making to send lunch with their children each day.
We hope your children have enjoyed their first two weeks back at school, and that they come home excited about what they’ve learned each day. That will be our goal the whole year through.
Best regards,
