Accreditation and Authorisation Update

The most popular curriculum in international schools worldwide is the International Baccalaureate (IB). It is widely recognized for its global perspective and rigorous academic standards. This study on IB acceptance rates to top US universities shows the acceptance rates of IB students vs non-IB students, at various elite US schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, etc.)

Other popular curricula include the British curriculum (IGCSE/A-levels) and the American curriculum (Advanced Placement – AP), but the IB is often favoured for its international focus and widespread acceptance by universities globally. A study by ACS International Schools who surveyed 80 UK universities admissions officers (“representing nearly half of UK universities”) found that “the results might surprise many British families: these universities overwhelmingly view the IB Diploma as better preparation for both university and the workplace. The IB is consistently rated as the top post-16 qualification, equipping students with the skills necessary to excel in higher education”.

It is with pride today that we share in a remarkable milestone in our school’s journey. Following the visit of IB evaluators in March of this year, and as of June 27th, the International Baccalaureate (IB) has extended its authorizations to Cedar International School for another five year cycle, across all three of our IB programmes: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

IB re-authorization means that Cedar International School has successfully reaffirmed its status as an IB World School. More than 5,500 schools across 159 countries have IB World School status. These schools proudly offer one or more of the renowned International Baccalaureate programs – whether it’s the PYP, MYP, or DP.

The IB report (issued on the 27th June) can be found here in its entirety. This is an excellent report which contains a large number of commendations and also a number of self-identified recommendations for future school development. The report states that: “the concepts of community, diversity, inclusion and compassion (essential to nurturing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people) permeate and frame the work of all members in the school community”.

A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful students, parents, and staff whose collaboration and determination led our school through this quinquennial re-authorization cycle. In particular, thank you to our three programme coordinators – Lesley Bayles (PYP), Enrica Rymer (MYP) and Thibaud Guenegou (DP) for their candour and determination.

The CIS, MSA, and IB evaluation reports offer us a roadmap for future development, guiding our focus and shining a light on opportunities for growth. The school can now begin its next cycle of development and evolution, in line with international education standards.

Please do ask if you have any questions at all.
