On Saturday 9th February, Cedar International School held its 8th ‘Night of Nations’, an event which brings our diverse community together through entertainment, music, dance and food from all around the world.

Tray after tray of delicious and varied meals were brought in by donors and volunteers, helping to fill over 300 hungry and happy faces. Everything from Pea Soup to Philippine spring rolls, short bread and dumplings to name but a few.

This year the entertainment comprised of an Indian Fashion Show, which was put on by young students. The Moko Jumbies gave their usual impressive display, not to mention the beautiful sounds of the Zion Hill Youth Steel Orchestra as well as Elmore Stout High School steel pan band that brought the wonderful Trinidadian traditional music to light. The audience was also treated to the amazing CIS Elite Cheerleading team, which did the school proud.

The school’s main areas were decorated with Far Eastern and African ornaments and the main “dining hall” had a Caribbean feel to it – adorned in banana leaves and palm fronds with a Middle Eastern backdrop.

This year the event also served as a launch for Cedar’s ‘Pitch in’ fundraising campaign which aims to replace and upgrade the Cedar sports pitch after a long life of service and significant damage from the 2017 hurricanes. Funds raised through tickets and food sales will be ring fenced towards this goal.

The organisers wish to thank all the volunteers – teachers, students, helpers, parents and visitors for their hard work, collaborative effort, and cooking skills to help pull off such a successful event which brought together our community.
